Our story:
The Greenhouse is an independent family owned business and is proud to serve Aberdeen and the surrounding area. Below, owner/director, David Shiach explains the thinking behind planting a Garden Centre in an urban shopping mall.
“I loved my job as a successful Garden Centre manager but from time-to-time I had the urge to step out and mix it up a bit.
Over the years a few business ideas came and went- without anything concrete ever happening.
Then one night during lockdown I did that classic thing, sitting round the fire-pit with a glass of whisky thinking ‘what do I really want to do with the rest of my life?’
And so it there it was, the wee spark was lit again but this time it kept burning and the idea- a garden centre in the heart of a city began to make sense. Retail habits were changing, lockdown re-united more folks with nature and not everyone can (or wants to) head out of town to get gardening supplies, gifts or friendly advice and a blether.
Before long the family were all getting excited about the potential in the old Laura Ashley unit in The Bon Accord Centre. With the help and encouragement of family, friends and some forward thinking centre staff we transformed the space into something quite special: a modern garden centre in an urban shopping centre- The Greenhouse.”
Our wee van:
Many of our customers visit the Bon Accord Centre on public transport and really appreciate our home-delivery service. The same is also true for car owners when buying larger items. Good service and sustainability go hand-in -hand at The Greenhouse team and that’s why we’re particularly attached to our wee electric van- and consider it an important part of the team!
